The beautiful Ponta do Sol was founded around 1450. It's main activity consists of the production of sugar cane, bananas and wine. Modern hotels and shopping centers have been built here. Ponta do Sol is a great place to spend the day amongst locals and tourists for it's proximity to the sea and levada walks.

Driving along the coast road from Ponta do Sol you get to Madalena do Mar, a small but pleasant village just by the sea covered with luxurious green vegetation and banana plantations.
