Description:

Câmara de Lobos is an important and picturesque fishing village situaded 9km to the west of Funchal. Made famous by the painting of Sir Wiston Churchill in 1950 who spent some time at this village.
Camara de Lobos was a favourite painting subject of Winston Churchill. There still is a monument in the village that reminds of his paintings.
Wine and bananas are produced in large quantities on the upper slopes.
Surrounding views illustrate the volcanic origin of the island.

Things to do:

Try the local 'poncha' (a drink made on request with 100%proof sugar-cane rum, honey and fresh lemon juice), also nice fish and seafood restaurants.
Pubs and bars tend to get crowed at the evening on weekends.
